Add Wiz Khalifa to the list of people who believe the Earth is flat.
In a new episode of the Joe Budden Podcast (which is currently only available to Patreon subscribers), the rapper was asked if the “earth was round.”
“I would say no,” Khalifa answered. “I just believe that we live on a flat plane. It’s only because I’ve traveled so much.”
When Budden asked him if he ever reached the edge of the earth, said, Wiz said, “No, it’s not that. I think that there’s more masses than just what we see. It was one thing before and it’s like spread out.”
“Because when I travel the routes that we take and how we do it, it’s not possible to go up and down—you’re just going straight,” he said further into the episode. “I never looped around. I never was on one place and then went to the other coast from that place. You always go the long way.”
According to Dr. James Garvin, an Earth and Planetary scientist from NASA, the understanding of Earth as a sphere dates back thousands of years when ancient civilizations like the Greeks and Egyptians observed celestial movements and shadows. That knowledge was later confirmed by early mariners who navigated the globe, proving Earth’s curvature by being able to circumnavigate it, which would be impossible on a flat planet.
From there, the advent of the space age in the 1950s and 60s allowed humankind to observe Earth from space, which clearly showed its spherical shape.
Despite overwhelming scientific evidence proving the Earth is round, belief in a flat Earth has seen a resurgence with young Americans thanks to the distrust in experts, according to the University of Melbourne.
Wiz joins a group of public figures that have also co-signed the conspiracy theory, including B.o.B and Kyrie Irving.
