Vochlea, the team behind the award-winning voice-to-MIDI software Dubler 2, has launched a new iOS app designed to help musicians capture, organize and revisit their roughest, most vital ideas— the ones that usually get lost in a mess of voice memos.
Dubnote acts as a sonic sketchbook, designed for the chaotic, work-in-progress phase of songwriting when inspiration strikes and speed matters. Whether it’s a vocal riff recorded on the go, a band practice, or a loose jam you want to build on later, Dubnote helps musicians capture and structure creative sparks without breaking their flow.
Built for beginnings
Continuing their unflinching mission to pioneer how music makers approach their craft, Dubnote is a much needed solution to the formatting and storing of those lightning-strike moments of inspiration. George Wright, CEO of Vochlea explains:
“Our first product, Dubler, helped musicians get ideas out of their heads by letting them vocalise melody and rhythm. But after years of working directly with artists, we realised that this early ideas stage is totally underserved. Most musicians use the native voice memos app not because they love it, but because it’s convenient. In fact, 63% of musicians say audio note apps are essential, but they hate the ones that are available to them. We’ve built something better, designed with musicians in mind and made for the scrappy, messy stage of songwriting. No more digging through a sea of untitled waveforms. With Dubnote, ideas are easy to capture, organise and actually find again.”
Smarter sessions, powered by on-device AI
Dubnote uses AI to bring much-needed framework to unstructured audio recordings, and crucially, does it all on your device. Daven Sanassy, CTO of Vochlea explains:
“These aren’t just files. They’re your work. That’s why Dubnote processes everything locally. No recordings are sent to external servers, and nothing is used to train models. It’s all about giving musicians full ownership over their creative process, from idea to execution.”
Dubnote allows musicians and producers to:
- Automatically split their recordings into meaningful sections.
- Detect tempo (BPM).
- Transcribe speech and lyrics.
- Add time-stamped notes and favorite key moments.
- Tag recordings automatically based on content.
- Make everything searchable by keyword or emoji (e.g. “hook” or 🥁).
- Export full recordings or individual clips (.WAV or .AAC).
- Import old recordings to rediscover forgotten ideas.
You can organise recordings into notebooks with custom covers and titles, and all sessions are securely backed up to your iCloud.
Already in action: Millpool’s debut, made in Dubnote
Dubnote has already been road-tested by rising UK band Millpool, whose debut single High Speed Pursuit, is unleashed today, and was developed, workshopped and perfected using early builds of the app. Alejandro VanZandt-Escobar, saxophonist of Millpool explains:
“Before Dubnote, everything went into voice memos and I’d waste time digging through old recordings, now I can favourite sections, add notes and share clips with the band in seconds. It’s made our whole process smoother. I honestly can’t go back.”
To mark the launch, Dubnote is free for one day only at the App Store, with lifetime Premium access unlocked for anyone who downloads the app on Wednesday July 9th, 2025. No subscriptions or upsells, just the full version (normally £24.99 GBP/$24.99 USD per year) completely free for early adopters.
