Jesus Oyola has released The Bass Particle, a free bass saturation and sub-resonator plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
This is a cool little plugin for saturating and thickening bass frequencies. To some extent, it reminds me of our own free BPB Bassaturator plugin, although the control setup is very different.
The Bass Particle is built around a resonant low-end boost, with controls for Amplitude and Frequency. Amplitude controls how aggressive the resonance gets, going from transparent at lower settings to up to 14 dB of added sub-bass when pushed harder.
The Frequency knob sweeps the resonant area, while the 40 Hz and 100 Hz range buttons define the frequency range it operates in. There is also a Flat mode that bypasses the resonance and leaves only the clean high-pass filter.
The saturation section gives you three flavors, Tube, Tape, and Xform, with oversampling to help reduce digital aliasing. Sat Mix works as a dry/wet control, so you can blend in the saturation without completely flattening the original transient punch.
I tried The Bass Particle this morning, and it is very good for adding oomph to bass guitars. It also works well on drums if you want to add more weight to the kick. The workflow is quick, and it’s easy to dial in something useful without spending much time.
I also like the interface. It is clean and simple, with everything you need to control the plugin and nothing that feels overcomplicated. It has more of an old-school freeware plugin feel to me, and it does not come across as something vibe-coded or thrown together to follow a trend.
The Bass Particle is available as a direct free download from the developer’s Patreon page. The download is a 2.8 MB ZIP archive containing a VST3 plugin for manual installation.
There is no Audio Unit version. The Bass Particle is available in VST3 format for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
