Suge Knight has been on his own press tour amid Diddy’s trial.
The former Death Row Records CEO chatted with CNN’s Laura Coates in a call from prison, where he said he believes Diddy should testify to “humanize” himself.
“I feel if he do tell his truth, he really would walk,” Knight told Coates. “If Puffy goes up there and says, ‘Hey … I did all the drugs, I wasn’t in control of my life at the time, or myself’—he can humanize his old self and the jury might give him a shot.”
“But if they keep him sitting down, it’s like he’s scared to face the music,” Suge added. “He should just have his faith in God, put up his pants, and go up there and tell his truth.”
It’s unclear if Diddy will take the stand. The disgraced music mogul pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. He’s facing life in prison if convicted.
The two music executives’ rivalry dates back to the 1990s, when their respective labels were at the center of the East Coast vs. West Coast rap feud. Their beef ultimately came to a head with the deaths of Knights’ Death Row artist, 2Pac in 1996, and Diddy’s Bad Boy artist, The Notorious B.I.G. in 1997.
Suge is currently serving a 28-year bid for a fatal hit-and-run in 2015. Still, that hasn’t stopped the 60-year-old from going on a PR run to discuss Diddy’s case.
Earlier this week, on Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation show, Knight said he thinks Diddy’s trial will end with him being a free man.
“I say this all the time, Puffy and I are not friends,” Knight told Cuomo of his former adversary. “But Puffy should definitely walk.”
