Roland has discounted its TR-909 Software Drum Machine to $49 (regular price $149) until October 9th, 2025. This 66% discount is available via Plugin Boutique and includes UVI Relayer as a free bonus plugin.
Much like they did on 808 Day, Roland is now celebrating the 909 with this offer. If you’ve been waiting to grab the official TR-909 plugin from Roland, now’s probably the time.
The Roland TR-909 plugin is part of the Roland Cloud collection and emulates the classic hybrid drum machine that quite literally helped define techno and house music.
Unlike the fully analog TR-808, the original 909 combined analog-generated drums (kick, snare, toms, hats) with early digital samples (cymbals). The plugin version replicates both elements using Roland’s ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology for the analog parts and original ROM samples for the digital side.
While the plugin keeps the signature 909 sound intact, the software version is far more flexible and takes full advantage of modern DAWs.
The built-in sequencer, for example, adds a bunch of new features that you won’t find in the hardware 909. You can program individual lanes for each instrument, adjust parameters like flams and sub-steps, and set unique shuffle or last step values per part.
I can say with zero doubt that the sequencer is my favorite part of the software 909.
Yes, you can find other 909 plugins and tons of sample packs (like our BPB Cassette 909), but Roland’s sequencer makes it easier to create drum patterns, polyrhythms, and complex sequences than any other clone I’ve tried.
There’s also drag-and-drop support for exporting patterns as audio or MIDI clips straight into your DAW, which is a nice touch for hybrid workflows, resampling, and layering.
If you’re into hands-on control and already own some outboard gear, it’s worth noting that the plugin integrates with Roland’s TR-8S and TR-09 hardware. This also makes it a superb option for live use.
Please note that you’ll need a Roland Cloud account for activation. The plugin runs on macOS (Intel & Apple Silicon) and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
