Full FX Media has released Setekh, a free distortion plugin with a minimal interface and a useful input/output gain link.
There’s nothing groundbreaking here, but Setekh delivers exactly what you want from a compact distortion tool. You get a solid analog-style distortion sound and a clean interface with one cool feature that helps speed up the workflow.
The main attraction is a large central knob that adjusts the distortion amount from 0 to 100. It’s a nice-sounding distortion, and it works well as a subtle coloration unit at lower values.
The knob is paired with input and output gain sliders, and this is where the plugin shows its wise design choice: you can link the input and output sliders to maintain a consistent volume level while adjusting distortion.
This simple link helps avoid the usual trap of thinking a sound is better just because it’s louder. I found this super helpful for adding subtle saturation, because you hear the actual tonal change without volume getting in the way, which makes a big difference.
Beyond that, Setekh includes a simple bypass switch and not much else. But that’s kind of the point. This plugin isn’t trying to be a go-to tool for everything in your mix. It’s just a simple distortion that works well.
As for the design, the interface is dark and minimal, with green highlights that give it a modern feel without distracting from the controls.
I really appreciate the simplicity here. It’s excellent for fast-paced work where you need to distort the signal quickly without any distractions.
I’m sure you already have some kind of distortion or saturation tool in your DAW, but if you’re after a lightweight, cross-platform alternative with a modern UI and that useful gain-linking feature, Setekh is worth a look.
If you want something more feature-packed or different, check out our free BPB Dirty Filter Plus or the recently released LOCD by Ewan Bristow. Another recent distortion freebie is Destruqtor from Blepfx.
Setekh is available in VST3 format for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can download it for free directly from the Full FX Media website, with no email or signup required.
Optionally, you can subscribe to their newsletter for updates or check out their open-source projects on GitHub.
