Nicki Minaj said she was invited to join the Recording Academy — the GRAMMYS governing body — but turned the invite down.
The “Monster” rapper made the claim during a live StationHead appearance on Friday, July 11. She said that she appreciated the gesture, per JustJared, but had legitimate reasons to refuse the offer.
“At one point, the Grammys asked me to be on the board,” she said during the broadcast. “I appreciated it. That it was a very, very, very kind gesture but my integrity couldn’t allow me to accept it. This was before the release of Pink Friday 2.”
She continued: “My integrity couldn’t allow me to sit on the board of something that made absolutely no sense to me and to anyone that understands. So, I said no. I thought it was kind of them to try. Why would I be sitting on the board if I don’t have a Grammy?”
To date, Nicki Minaj has not won a Grammy, although she has been nominated several times in various categories, including Best Rap Song in 2024.

Meanwhile, Minaj recently made headlines when she went on the attack against Democrats for blasting her claim about her cousin’s friend’s genitalia.
In 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Minaj made a claim on X, formerly Twitter, that her cousin’s friend’s genitalia swelled up after taking the vaccine. That claim caused a flurry of controversy, with many users on the then-popular social media platform dismissing her claims as nonsense.
On July 8, Nicki Minaj returned to X, formerly Twitter, to address the matter as part of a larger tirade against JAY-Z, the music industry in general, and Roc Nation in particular.
“Democrats attacked me over my cousin’s b*lls. Remember?” she wrote. “Let’s see if they have any thoughts on that DESIRAT pardon. Let’s see if they have any thoughts on brother billionaire never campaigning for Kamala even after Obama pleaded with the ‘brothers.'”
