Metro Boomin, a self-described “student of the game,” is reveling in the enthusiastic fan response to A Futuristic Summa, hosted by Georgia’s own DJ Spinz.
As Complex reported last week, the tape finds Metro celebrating classic Atlanta sounds, particularly those familiar to anyone who grew up in the first chunk of the 2000s.
Young Dro is an undeniable highlight from the star-stacked proceedings, with the Grand Hustle artist making multiple appearances across the double-disc affair. In Metro’s own words, Dro is “a strong contender for MVP” among the project’s roster of collaborators.
Amid continued praise from fans, Metro playfully elaborated on the sonic ethos behind the Summa tape, all while having a little fun with anyone who might not be fully on board.
In one X update on Sunday (Aug. 3), he wrote, “IF YO HOMEBOY NEVER HAD TO HOLD YOU UP IN THE TEEN PARTY WHILE U WAS GETTING TWERKED ON THEN YOU MIGHT WANNA SIT THIS ONE OUT.”
In another post, Metro jokingly delivered the following observation: “A lot of y’all get no bitches and it shows.”
Metro kept the “SIT THIS ONE OUT” format going with nods to the necessity of handwritten phone numbers, rocking clothes with tags on, pairing Polo shirts with Sperry shoes, and other era-specific brands like Hollister and Aeropostale.
Driving home the point, Metro wrote, “IF YOU STARTED LISTENING TO RAP MUSIC IN 2017 THEN YOU MIGHT WANNA SIT THIS ONE OUT.”
Metro seems intent on enjoying himself: After all, he said this was the “most fun” he’s had while making a record. He’s also championing key rap voices as part of a larger aim at putting “regional identity” back at the forefront of artistry.
“IT’S TIME FOR MUSIC TO GET BACK REGIONAL,” the seven-time Grammy nominated producer wrote. “SOCIAL MEDIA GOT EVERYBODY TRYNA DO THE SAME THING. LET’S GET BACK TO ACTUAL CULTURE AND REGIONAL IDENTITY.”
