Lizzo continues to speak out against body shaming.
In a TikTok video shared on Thursday (July 10), the singer called out people—particularly those in small or formerly large bodies—who shame others for their size.
“I said I wasn’t gonna speak on this, but as someone who really cares about people and the way this world is going, I have to say something,” the four-time Grammy winner opened her video. “If you are in a thin-presenting body, or in a body that people would consider small, it is not your place to criticize or shame people in bigger bodies.”
“You of all people should understand that bodies change,” she added.
The “About Damn Time” singer clarified that her message wasn’t a reaction to any personal attacks. Instead, she says she’s speaking up for people who don’t share her thick skin.
She also critiqued how the messaging behind body positivity has been co-opted, saying, “It was about people in disabled bodies, queer bodies, Black and brown bodies,” until it was “commercialized and gentrified” and reduced to a synonym for “fat.”

“So now, if a person in a bigger body decides to change their body and get smaller, all of a sudden they’re not body positive anymore. You’re gonna make them feel bad for that? You’re gonna shame them for that? We as a society need to stop acting like we’re better than the person next to us. Cause you’re not better than the person next to you. You’re not,” Lizzo said.
“To all of my bigger body people, do what you want to do with your body. Don’t let nobody bully you. Don’t let nobody try to shame you. Don’t let nobody try to cancel you for living in your body cause it’s your body,” she said further into the clip.
Lizzo concluded, “Can’t nobody guilt me for what I do in my body. That is why I am who I am today. Not because I was fat, not because I was small, not because I was short, not because I was tall. It’s because I’m me and I can stand on that. And you should stand on that too. Don’t live for nobody else. Live for you. And for the people who try to shame those people: mind your business, live your life.”
In May of this year, Lizzo went on The Breakfast Club to explain her perspective on weight loss, saying she views her journey as a “weight release.”
“I do call it a weight release because [when] it started, I got snatched here first,” she said at the time while pointing to her forehead. “And then my body just followed suit, so I do feel amazing.”
