Kid Cudi was inspired by iconic Jim Carrey film The Truman Show while recording his upcoming eleventh album, Free.
On Wednesday (June 9), the rapper-actor posted the album cover on Instagram, which depicts him jumping into the clouds. At the end of the 1998 surrealist comedy, protagonist Truman Burbank (Carrey) ascends into the clouds from a staircase after freeing himself from his life on the fictional island of Seahaven, which is actually a soundstage.
After thanking photographer Norman Jean Roy in his Instagram caption, Kid Cudi said that he wanted the image to be “something that really expressed freedom.”
“So the concept of me leaping into the clouds made so much sense,” he continued. “Inspired by The Truman Show. I cant WAIT for u guys to hear this album and really see the album art brought to life. You’re in for a beautiful ride. Promise 😉🙏🏾❤️🔥😌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥”

2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year for Cudi, who debuted his short film, Neverland, at Tribeca Film Festival in June, and will release his memoir in August. Free drops on August 22.
Carrey’s influence has been heard in Cudi’s Man on the Moon series, which he based on the actor’s portrayal of late performer Andy Kaufman in the 1999 biopic of the same name.
