John Legend addressed unauthorized concert ads in Italy and confirmed he won’t be performing in Naples while slamming the promoter.
John Legend shut down rumors of an upcoming concert in Naples after unauthorized posters featuring his image and name began circulating across Italy, calling out the promoter for promoting a show he never agreed to.
The Grammy-winning singer took to Instagram Stories on Sunday to set the record straight after seeing his likeness used to promote a performance he says was never finalized.
“To my fans in Italy: You may have seen advertisements for a show in Napoli claiming that I will be a featured performer. These advertisements have been posted without my knowledge or approval,” John Legend wrote.
Legend explained that while his team had been in early talks about a possible appearance, no deal was ever reached.
“My team was approached about the possibility of performing at this show and we were hoping to come to an acceptable agreement with the show’s promotor, but we never did.”
The 46-year-old artist expressed regret over the confusion and disappointment caused by the misleading promotion.
“Unfortunately, I will not be performing there. I deeply appreciate the love and excitement – I see your messages and support. And it means the world to me. I love spending time in Italy,” John Legend added. “And I absolutely love performing there. And I hope to do so again soon. But I would never want my fans to be misled, expecting to see me at an event where I will not be. My apologies for any misunderstanding.”
The concert organizer behind the Naples event has yet to respond publicly to Legend’s statement.
Legend closed his message with a hopeful note for future appearances, saying, “Hopefully, I will see you on the road. Sending everyone love!”
According to his official tour schedule, Legend is next set to perform at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois, on August 23 as part of his Get Lifted – 20th Anniversary Tour.
