JID and J. Cole apparently have a collaborative album in the vault.
“Me and Cole got a body, a 15-track smoker. Me and him, back and forth,” JID revealed on The Joe Budden Podcast. “We worked on this shit in New York, I ain’t never told nobody this. Sorry, Cole.”
The Forever Story rapper also commented on Cole’s long-awaited album, The Fall Off.
“The Fall Off’s going to be really good. Y’all gonna see,” he said.
“I don’t think there’s anybody out there against that,” Budden replied. “I think a lot of people are looking forward to that with all of the shit that occurred.”
Budden’s response is a nod to Cole bowing out of Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef last year. In April 2024, Cole issued an apology at the Dreamville Festival, saying he regretted dropping his “7 Minute Drill” diss track in response to Lamar’s fiery “Like That” warning shot.
“7 Minute Drill” was included on Cole’s surprise mixtape, Might Delete Later; like the project title suggests, he deleted the track.
But the Dreamville head has also been teasing The Fall Off since his 2018 album, KOD, titling the last track, “1985 (Intro to The Fall Off).”
More recently, Cole’s producer, DZL, spoke about the upcoming album, telling Complex in April that The Fall Off is Cole at his finest.
“It’s Cole in his bag,” DZL said. “Top-tier raps, top-level rapping, top-level storytelling. This project is going to give people a deeper insight into him as a man, him as a human being, him as a father, and him as a husband.
“I think he’s mysterious and stays out of the public eye, away from the spotlight,” the producer continued. “This album is going to give more of an insight into who he is, and it’s really incredible—top to bottom, no skips. I really can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
