Jay-Z is rumored to be the next Super Bowl Halftime Show performer, and the timing couldn’t be crazier—especially with recent shots from Nicki Minaj.
JAY-Z lit up Paris with Beyoncé this past weekend in a performance that folks are calling nothing short of legendary. That might be the other way around, but you get what I am saying. The Carters gave the City of Light a moment to remember. I wish I was there. I would’ve gladly stood in the rain wearing a Roc Nation hat in “formation” to witness that. Of course, there’s more brewing beneath the surface.

Nicki Minaj, who has been very vocal lately, recently threw some verbal jabs in Jigga’s direction. According to her, JAY-Z and Roc Nation weren’t exactly the most supportive of her career. So if JAY-Z, who has a whole hand in curating these performances through Roc Nation’s NFL deal, chooses to step into the spotlight himself? Woo-Hoo! That’s a chess move.
It would be a power play on multiple levels.
First, it fires back at the criticisms without saying a word. Second, it potentially opens the door for JAY-Z to re-enter the musical arena with the type of rollout only he could orchestrate. You know Hov doesn’t release an album unless he’s going straight to No. 1. And let’s not forget, he’s been relatively quiet on the music front, letting Beyoncé cook instead. I think they’re slowly building out their family empire. But a Super Bowl performance? That’s how you make noise and continue legacy at the same time.
Plus, if Queen Bey hops on for a quick “Crazy in Love” moment—GAME OVER. God forbid they do a new song. Now, this is just a rumor, but something tells me there’s some smoke here.
