Parallax Audio is now offering the Virtual Sound Stage v2.0.2 virtual instrument spatializer for free download.
The plugin is for macOS (Intel CPU and Apple Silicon – M-Series) and Windows (x86 64-bit, Windows 10 or higher).
The Windows formats are VST3 and AAX, while for macOS, it’s available in VST3, AU, and AAX.
Parallax Audio developed Virtual Sound Stage as a paid release in 2014, and in October 2025, they issued a rebuilt legacy version of the plugin as a freeware drop.
The rebuilt release offers better compatibility with modern operating systems. It also introduces VST3 compatibility and support for ARM-based Apple Silicon CPUs.
So what do bedroom producers expect from Virtual Sound Stage? The plugin offers a realistic room simulation that goes beyond what traditional verbs can offer.
With realistic acoustic environments in play, producers can bring a tangible sense of space into mixes.
The plugin features a collection of modelled rooms suitable for various applications, such as concert halls, recording studios, cathedrals, and film scoring stages.
You can further tweak the output by choosing from a range of microphone setups and then positioning them freely throughout the space to alter the stereo image.
There is also a five-module room sim panel that gives you fine control over the simulation, covering input delay, signal position, speaker setup, early reflections, and more.
Parallax Audio kitted out Virtual Sound Stage with a unified user interface, which allows you to control multiple instances of the plugin within a single interface for a streamlined workflow.
I can’t find any official demos or recent demos showcasing the 2025 release, although there are several user demos showing what the original Virtual Sound Stage 2 can do.

Seeing the plugin in action highlights how you can drag and drop sound sources in the acoustic environment.
I have to say Parallax Audio has definitely set up the download right, as you can snap up the zipped plugin in your OS of choice with a single click straight from the product page.
The macOS and Windows zips come in at 120 MB and 39.6 MB, respectively.
The developer explained that their motivation for this re-release was to make the plugin freely available for buyers of the original release and bypass issues with lost key files and compatibility.
And while the audio tech hails from 2014, if you haven’t got this functionality in your toolkit as yet, then I dare say it could be a nifty addition to the collection for new users too.
