Gavin Adcock isn’t pleased that Beyoncé‘s Cowboy Carter is sitting atop the Apple Music Country Chart.
A viral clip shows the country singer reacting to Bey’s country album snagging the No. 1 spot ahead of other country artists.
“That shit ain’t country music and it ain’t ever been country music, and it ain’t gonna be country music,” Adcock says in a clip to the roar of fans.
Adcock cleared up his comments in a video posted to X.
“I’ma go ahead and clear this up,” he said. “When I was a little kid, my mama was blasting some Beyoncé in the car. I’ve heard a ton of Beyoncé songs and I actually remember her Super Bowl Halftime Show being pretty kick-ass back in the day. But I really don’t believe her album should be labeled as country music. It doesn’t sound country, it doesn’t feel country, and I just don’t think that people that have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she’s Beyoncé.”
Beyoncé receiving hate for Cowboy Carter isn’t new. The pop star’s 2024 effort dominated the country music charts from the outset, notching several firsts for her.

Cowboy Carter became Beyoncé’s eighth consecutive album to sit atop the Billboard 200 chart and the first album by a Black woman to open at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart. Her single “Texas Hold ‘Em” became the Queen B’s ninth U.S. No. 1 single and the first country song by a Black woman to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts.
The album also provoked backlash from many who believed it wasn’t a real country album, even though it won Country Album of the Year at this year’s Grammys—and Album of the Year, too, both of which were firsts for her.
Following her W, Bey announced her Cowboy Carter Tour, which kicked off in April and has made stops in several cities in the US and Europe.
Adcock’s new album, My Own Worst Enemy, is set to arrive on Aug. 15.
