Flavor Flav reflected on going to culinary school in a new interview, saying that his “most memorable” meals were fruit soup and peanut butter soup.
In an interview with Sterogum, the legendary rapper opened up about his time attending a culinary school in the late 1970s. “I went to culinary school back in the day, and I got a certificate for institutional cooking,” he explained. “Institutional cooking is when you make stuff like pans of rice, pilaf, fettuccine alfredo, and crepes for 400 people at a time.”
“I used to make this thing called fruit soup,” he continued. “A soup out of fruit. I used to make peanut butter soup as well. My most memorable meal was eating some peanut butter soup and fruit soup, and the culinary school I went to.”
Flav has made his love for the culinary arts known in the past. Last year, he partnered with Red Lobster to create a signature meal called Flavor Flav’s Faves. In a statement, Flav shared his excitement for the meal.

“As a long-time Red Lobster fan, I’m fired up to bring a little bit of my own flavor to fans with a meal featuring my seafood favorites,” said Flav. “You gotta get to Red Lobster and give it a try because this signature meal is hype, boy.”
“When you have someone like Flavor Flav who shows their love for a brand by ordering the entire menu, you know there is a lot more fun to be had,” said Sara Bittorf, Chief Experience Officer at Red Lobster, in a statement. “Flavor Flav’s passion for Red Lobster is unmatched, and we’re excited to bring our guests a flavor experience unlike any other.”
Prior to that, Flav was involved with the creation of multiple restaurants. In 2011, he launched “Flav’s Fried Chicken” in Clinton, Iowa, which closed after four months. In 2012, he had the short-lived Flavor Flav’s House of Flavor in Las Vegas, followed by Flavor Flav’s Chicken & Ribs in Sterling Heights, Michigan, that closed in 2013.
Most recently, Flav was the star of a new campaign for Raising Canes in April. He ended up clocking into a shift at a Raising Cane’s location in Las Vegas to celebrate the new campaign.
