Flame Sound has released Futuristic Textures, a free sample pack designed as a preview of an upcoming Vital soundbank by HydraTek.
The pack was created by Fabio Gotti, also known as HydraTek, and it gives us an early taste of the sounds that will appear in his forthcoming Vital Soundbank, due to land on Flame Sound in January.
I was impressed by the sounds that Fabio provided for this release. In my opinion (perhaps subjectively, since I run the Flame Sound label), Futuristic Textures is a solid little freebie if you’re into cinematic, atmospheric, or experimental sound design.
You might remember HydraTek from other free content he released, including the Cinematic Bass and Cinematic Electronica sample packs available on 99sounds, both of which are well worth checking out if you enjoy this style.
Futuristic Textures includes 52 WAV samples built from 13 core textures, each offered in multiple variations.
All sounds were initially designed in Vital, but the samples are delivered as standard WAV files, so you don’t need Vital installed to use them. You can simply drag and drop the sounds into your DAW or load them into your favorite sampler and start shaping them further.
The pack leans toward gritty, sci-fi, and thriller-inspired textures. I’d say it really shines when used as background material rather than up-front elements.
These are the kind of sounds you can layer underneath a track to add depth, tension, and movement, or use sparingly to introduce a bit of grit and atmosphere. They work particularly well for cinematic cues, ambient music, and experimental electronic productions, but they’re just as useful as subtle textures in more traditional electronic tracks.
Since all the sounds are derived from the upcoming Vital soundbank, this pack is also a free preview of what’s to come in the full release. If you like what you hear here, chances are the full collection will be right up your alley.
If you’re not familiar with Vital, it’s a powerful wavetable synthesizer that has become hugely popular thanks to its sound, deep modulation options, and generous free version. It’s a go-to tool for modern sound design, covering a wide range of styles and genres, including (but not limited to) evolving textures like those showcased here.
Futuristic Textures is available now as a free download. The samples come in WAV format and are compatible with any DAW or sampler on macOS and Windows systems.
