Chris Brown has reportedly been arrested in connection with an alleged 2023 nightclub incident. While initial information on the circumstances was relatively scarce as of this writing, reports state that Brown was arrested at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, England.
Such reports, including from Page Six and elsewhere, were sourcing British tabloid The Sun as of Thursday. While the tabloid and others have stated that London’s Metropolitan Police Service directly confirmed Brown’s arrest, that’s not accurate, as naming or otherwise confirming the identity of an arrested individual is against the department’s policy on those “who may be, or may not be, subject to an investigation,” per a police rep.
When reached for comment by Complex, a Metropolitan Police rep said only that “a 36-year-old man” had been arrested at a Manchester hotel on Thursday. Brown, notably, is 36. This individual, per police, was arrested “on suspicion of grievous bodily harm” and was still in custody at the time of Complex’s receipt of this statement. See the rep’s full statement below.
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains. The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

Later that year, Brown was reported to have been named in a lawsuit from a man who accused the singer of striking him multiple times with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila. The incident was alleged to have occurred at Tape London on Feb. 19.

In January, Brown filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit in response to the release of Chris Brown: A History of Violence. Brown’s legal team accused those behind the documentary of having “intentionally promoted false and defamatory information.” A spokesperson for ID, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a statement to Complex at the time that they “stand behind the production and will vigorously defend ourselves.”
