BABY Audio is one of my favorite developers. They have a lineup of easy-to-use but epic-sounding plugins like I Heart NY and SUPER VHS. They also offer incredible freebies like Magic Dice, Warp, and Beat Slammer.
Comeback Kid is another Baby Audio classic, delivering a delay tool that’s both inspiring and versatile.
Instead of stacking a bunch of inserts to craft your delay bus, Comeback Kid gives you the full toolkit in a single, beautifully designed interface. It covers the basics—time, feedback, ping-pong, and sync options—but the real fun starts with its extra features.
The “Shaper” section includes analog-modeled filters and a transient designer. Yes, a transient designer on a delay!
That means you can tweak the attack and sustain of the repeats, shaping the dynamics of the echoes. It’s an awesome tool for creating unique percussive loops.
Then there’s the “Flavor” section: four creative toggles that add lo-fi character, tape-style saturation, phasing, and algorithmic reverb. And if you like wide and lush stereo echoes, the “Stereo” section lets you manipulate width, pitch, and placement with intuitive controls.
But my two favorite features are at the output. “Ducker” intelligently tucks the delay behind your dry signal and only lets it bloom in the gaps—perfect for clean mixes. And “Destiny” randomly tweaks settings for that human, slightly unpredictable touch.
Comeback Kid also comes with over 60 presets from top-tier producers and engineers, giving you plenty of starting points to explore.
The interface has two color themes (though both are fairly similar), and everything is right where you need it—there are no submenus or hidden panels. It’s quite easy to use overall and there’s virtually no learning curve.
At $9.99, this is a steal. Comeback Kid can deliver everything from vintage tape-style echoes to otherworldly textures in a super intuitive package.
