Fresh off the release of his new album Blame the Chat, rapper and streamer DDG has argued that streaming on services such as Twitch has helped breathe new life into the music industry.
In an interview with TMZ, DDG said he’s changed the music industry “forever” by becoming the first artist to ever “make an album live on Twitch.” The interviewer said that DDG is “starting a whole new wave” with his approach to streaming and music. “The music industry getting boring, I had to spice it up,” he said. “I don’t really like how mysterious the music industry is, for real. I feel like it’s better when artists connect closer with the fans so they can feel like they’re more of a part of the process rather than just being surprised.”
During the chat, DDG was asked about when he said last month that he would “go broke ASAP” if he stopped working. He confirmed it was an exaggeration and he’s “good,” despite his comments. DDG also said that he’s started looking into acting roles.
DDG’s latest album features a number of high-profile guest appearances, some of whom have appeared on his streams on Twitch and YouTube, too. Among the guests on the record are Offset, Wiz Khalifa, PlaqueBoyMax, Ty Dolla Sign, and NLE Choppa. Recently, he offered popular YouTuber IShowSpeed $2 million to make a “quick little cameo” in a new music video.
