Ari Lennox is moving on from Dreamville Records.
TMZ reports that the singer has parted with her label of 10 years and will remain on Interscope. Her latest song, “Soft Girl Era” was released solely through Interscope last month.
According to the outlet, the split was amicable. Lennox performed at the latest installation of the Dreamville Festival this month, reportedly saying to J. Cole onstage, “Thank you for making my dreams a reality,” per HotNewHipHop.
However, six months ago, Ari wasn’t thrilled with her situation. In late October, she publicly aired her grievances toward Dreamville and Interscope and asked to be let go from her record deal. “I want out of my contract,” she wrote on Instagram.
Among her complaints was the release of a video she hadn’t approved and lack of advertising.
“I told management I didn’t want this recent video to come out because I’m tired of people treating me like I’m the face of mental health,” Lennox said on IG. “I’m tired of people treating me like they’re so sorry for me. I’m a human being who has just been very transparent about my life.”
“I’m saying very clearly I’m not comfortable with it being out for multiple reasons,” Lennox, who tagged both Interscope and Dreamville in her post, continued. “I just wish I had a label that cared, that would want to protect me. I wish I had a label that wouldn’t have me out here trying to explain that I need advertisement.”
“I just wanna be released, it’s that simple,” she added.
Lennox signed with Dreamville in 2015 and subsequently released her major label debut EP, Pho in 2016. Her first studio album, Shea Butter Baby arrived in 2019. She also released her EP, Away Message in August 2022 and her second album, Age/Sex/Location the following month.
