AM I AUDIO has released I AM CHOIR, a choir instrument that turns your vocal performance into a choir part while following your lyrics, melody, phrasing, and timing.
The plugin is not a standard vocal multiplier or a simple choir pad instrument. It is a timbre-transfer tool that takes an input performance and recreates it using the sound of a recorded choir.
I AM CHOIR runs locally inside your DAW, with no cloud processing and no audio leaving your computer. It is also a perpetual license, with no subscriptions, tokens, or generation credits.
The plugin includes three choir models:
- Gospel Choir is a mixed male and female choir with a range of E2 to G5, directed by Erica Howard.
- Kids Choir is a bright children’s choir recorded with the MUSYCA Children’s Choir, with a listed range of G#2 to G5.
- Shout is an all-male gang vocal model for shouted, non-melodic parts, with a range of E2 to G5.
AM I AUDIO says the plugin was built in direct collaboration with the singers behind the models. The singers contributed knowingly and consensually, were paid for their recording sessions, and will share in the plugin’s success through royalties.
I AM CHOIR also includes multiple microphone models, with U67 and C12/C24 options across all choirs, Schoeps on Gospel and Shout, and Telefunken on Kids.
For arranging, there is an octave generator, a harmony generator that creates thirds and fifths above or below the lead with key and scale settings, plus a stereo/mono toggle.
The post-processing section keeps things simple with low-cut, brightness, and reverb controls. AM I AUDIO recommends using a dry vocal input, removing long silences before conversion, and adding octave-up and octave-down layers when you want a bigger choir sound.
The company says the plugin was engineered and designed in collaboration with Neutone, Inc.
I AM CHOIR is currently available for $169 as a launch offer until September 1st, after which the price will be $199. A 14-day free trial is available with no credit card required.
I AM CHOIR supports VST3, AU, and AAX formats on macOS 12 or higher. Windows support is currently listed as coming soon, with a beta program available.
