FRCTL Audio has released AURA Lite, a free ducking reverb plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
FRCTL has been on a nice run of free tools lately. We recently covered DLAY Lite, and before that, SWRL Lite and GRN Lite. I like FRCTL Audio’s free plugins so far, and AURA Lite is another useful one.
AURA Lite is the free version of the new paid AURA reverb. It has four controls: Size, Decay, Clarity, and Mix. The important one is Clarity, which ducks the reverb tail while the dry source is playing and lets it come back in the gaps.
The label confused me at first, because I usually associate clarity in plugins with mid-high EQ boost, but here it basically means moving the reverb out of the way by ducking it.
Either way, it works well. If you have ever tried to put a big reverb under a vocal or lead sound without washing out the words or melody, you know why ducking matters. AURA Lite puts that behavior directly inside the reverb, without needing to set up a sidechain compressor on a return track.
The developer says AURA Lite uses the same engine as the paid plugin, voiced on the Hall character. The Clarity control uses the same ducking and band-by-band unmasking system as the full version, and the display shows the tail being carved around the source as you turn the knob.
The paid AURA expands the setup with seven morphable reverb characters: Room, Plate, Hall, Chamber, Bloom, Shimmer, and Space. It also adds Tune, Absorb, Swell, Delta listen mode, external sidechain input, early reflections, a gate, tail EQs, editable decay shaping, A/B compare, undo and redo, mix lock, user presets, and 71 factory presets.
AURA costs $34.99, with an introductory price of $24.99 until August 12. A 14-day free trial is available, and the plugin needs one activation but no subscription or iLok.
I will say the FRCTL website still has a bit of that vibe-coded look to me, but I don’t know how the plugins themselves were developed. Either way, the idea here is solid, and AURA LITE is definitely worth a try if you need a free reverb with ducking.
AURA Lite is free forever, with no account, email, or trial period required. It includes a commercial license and lifetime updates, and runs at zero latency in VST3, AU, CLAP, and standalone formats on Windows 10/11, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), and Linux.
