Get SSL Native X-Comp for $10 at Plugin Boutique

Solid State Logic’s SSL Native X-Comp Now Just $14.99 (84% Off) + Free Gift

Plugin Boutique is offering Solid State Logic’s SSL Native X-Comp for $10, down from $99.

The 89% discount runs until July 13, and Plugin Boutique is also including a free gift with the purchase. At the time of writing, the available gifts shown on the product page are Cloudmax Breeze Black Edition by Karanyi Sounds, AXXESS by GForce Software, and Toneknob Stargazer by Audified.

X-Comp is a stereo compressor from SSL’s Native plugin range. From my experience, it works for everything from subtle dynamic control to more aggressive limiting-style compression.

SSL describes it as a mastering-grade compressor with an analog feel, but I like how it is not trying to model one specific vintage unit.

Instead, X-Comp gives you a flexible set of controls that can move between modern and classic compressor behavior, including OPTO, FET, and Vari Mu-style responses.

The core controls are what you’ve probably seen in dozens of other compressors, with input gain, threshold, ratio, knee, attack, release, makeup gain, and output gain. You can also adjust the threshold and ratio directly in the central graph, and I find that workflow more intuitive than rotating knobs.

Another useful workflow touch is the gain reduction history display, which shows what the compressor has been doing over the last second. There is also a maximum gain reduction control, which can help keep the processing within a chosen range.

I also like X-Comp’s high and low frequency bleed controls. Instead of setting up a separate parallel chain, you can let selected high or low frequency content pass through the compression path, with adjustable crossover points and a listen function for checking what is being preserved.

That makes X-Comp useful on a broad range of sources, from drum buses and vocals to master chains, where you might want control without flattening the low end or dulling the top.

X-Comp runs on macOS 11 Big Sur to macOS 13 Ventura in AU, VST2, VST3, and AAX Native formats, with M1 Mac support listed. The Windows version runs on Windows 10 and 11 in VST2, VST3, and AAX Native formats, and a free iLok account is required for authorization.
