FRCTL Audio has released DLAY Lite, a free multi-tap delay plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
DLAY Lite is a simple delay with two main controls and 12 presets. You can pick a preset, adjust Mix and Wash, and you are basically done.
The Wash knob is the main character control. It turns tighter, clearer echoes into a longer, smoother, more diffuse tail, and pushes the delay toward a reverb-like cloud when you raise it.
The preset list covers quick slapbacks, longer washes, and other ready-made delay shapes, so the plugin is more about fast results than detailed programming.
DLAY Lite lets you arrange up to 12 echoes and control their timing, level, and the size of the space. If you want deeper editing, the full DLAY expands that idea with up to 64 echoes, pan, pitch, vowel, tone, saturation, reverse, rhythm patterns, seven character modes, 168 presets, and full DAW automation.
This one is worth a look if you are into delays, especially if you like simple tools that can quickly sit on a send or add atmosphere without you doing a whole sound-design session.
My only gripe is the button on the GUI that points you toward the full version. It is a bit annoying and unnecessary, especially considering how many great delay plugins are already out there. If the free version is good, people will find the upgrade path without being nudged in the DAW.
Still, DLAY Lite is free, quick to download, and easy to use. There is no account or email required, and the license allows commercial use.
FRCTL has been on a nice run of freebies. We previously covered GRN Lite, the developer’s free granular effect plugin, and SWRL Lite, a free modulation plugin. DLAY Lite follows the same idea of offering a smaller version of a deeper paid tool.
DLAY Lite is available in VST3 and AU formats for Windows 10/11, macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon), and Linux. CPU usage is listed as minimal, and lifetime updates are included.
