Touched Lite from developer Warmth is a free multi-FX plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux. aimed at shoegaze producers, but that dreamy character fits a variety of genres.
The plugin features Fuzz and Reverb effects at the heart of that dreamy, ethereal shoegaze sound.
The Fuzz stage is inspired by the legendary Electro-Harmonix Big Muffin fuzz pedal.
The Big Muffin pedal can be heard on albums by acts like Pink Floyd, Nirvana, and even Frank Zappa.
When shoegaze emerged from the alternative rock scene, the Big Muffin fuzz sound remained, albeit with even less clarity than usual.
Prioritising mood and atmosphere over clarity is enhanced by reverb, and Touched Lite offers two reverb modes.
The first reverb mode is Soft Focus, a plate reverb modelled on the Yamaha FX500 patch.
Yamaha’s FX500 reverb unit came along in the late 1990s, years after Shoegaze burst onto the scene, but it quickly became a favourite of shoegaze producers.
The FX500’s Soft Focus patch, in particular, created the perfect lush and dreamy ambience for the genre.
The second reverb mode, Reverse, features multiple delay taps with rising gain.
Reverse reverb is another mainstay of shoegaze production, but, as I mentioned earlier, Touched Lite could be useful for various genres.
Both the Fuzz and Reverb stages have true bypass switches.
Besides those two stages, the only remaining control is the Output knob.
The full version features more fuzz and reverb modes, as well as a Tremolo stage.
Touched Lite could work well on guitars, keys, and synths when you want to create a bed for pensive, introspective lyrics.
Now, for something a little more time-sensitive, check out the Purafied Audio Everything Bundle.
