Minimal Audio is giving away its Hybrid Filter plugin for free for a limited time.
Hybrid Filter normally costs $49, and you can claim it by adding it to your cart and completing the checkout on the Minimal Audio website.
It’s worth noting that this is the first time Hybrid Filter has been offered as a standalone freebie. Back in March 2024, it was bundled free with any purchase on Plugin Boutique, but this time, you don’t need to buy anything else.
I’ve been a fan of Minimal Audio for a while. I used a lot of their sample packs before they got into plugins, and it turned out that their plugins are equally awesome. They’re really well-built and have clean interfaces that don’t overwhelm you with features.
But at the same time, their plugins usually offer something you won’t find elsewhere.
Hybrid Filter fits that description. It includes over 50 filter types, covering morphing, formant, comb, and phaser modes alongside the standard low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass shapes with carefully tuned resonance behavior.
I also like how the display shows the real-time filter response, so you can see exactly what each setting is doing. Some of these filters are quite complex, so I like having a bit of feedback to better understand what’s going on with the audio.
The Morph control is where things get super interesting. It manipulates the internal filter configuration to create more nuanced shapes that change depending on the filter type you’ve selected.
Combined with the built-in envelope follower (which can modulate both Cutoff and Morph), you can dial in dynamic auto-filter effects without reaching for a separate modulator.
I love using filters in general, so having this many types under one roof is fantastic. It’s a versatile sound design tool, but it doesn’t drown you in features. At the same time, you can pull a lot of tones out of it once you start playing with the modulation.
A few other features are worth a look. For example, the Low Crossover preserves the bottom of your sound while filtering the rest, with an optional mono-bass switch to remove out-of-phase content. That’s pretty useful when working on bass-heavy sounds.
Another nice touch is that the Cutoff Tune sets the cutoff to exact note values for harmonic resonance effects, and Amp Mod adds cutoff-tracking amplitude modulation for additional harmonics.
There’s also a Stereo Spread control for wide filtering and a soft-clip limiter at the output with two flavors (Purple for gentle limiting and saturation, Orange for punchier clipping).
Hybrid Filter is available in AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS 10.11 or later (native Apple Silicon supported) and Windows 10 or later. The license covers two activations and includes free updates and support.
