Flame Sound has released Free Human Voices, a free collection of non-verbal human character sounds.
Upfront disclosure: Flame Sound is my premium sound design label, so this is basically me writing about my own release. 🙂
Human Voices is a new library of 1,400 non-verbal vocal sound effects performed by four professional voice actors (two male, two female).
And, of course, there’s also a free version called Free Human Voices that includes 25 sounds from the main collection. Both are available from the Flame Sound Gumroad page.
The pack is built for sound design, video games, and animation, but I also think sounds like these are a lot of fun in music production.
You can drop them in between sections, layer them under drums or other song elements, pitch them up or down for some crazy effects, or run them through granular tools and whatever else you have at hand for some creative sound design fun.
The sounds are sorted into 15 categories that cover most human character style sounds. There’s everything from laughing and cheering to attacking, dying, pain, screaming, exertion, affirmation, objection, reaction, cheering, crying, booing, thinking, and idle sounds (breathing, waiting, general ambient character sounds).
Everything is provided as perfectly edited 24-bit WAV one-shots, all trimmed and normalized, with descriptive filenames so you’re not clicking through a thousand “vocal_057” files trying to find a laugh.
The one thing I want to be specific about is the zero AI policy.
Nothing in this library was generated, cloned, or passed through text-to-speech. Every sound is a real human performance, and the artwork is by one of my favorite artists, whom I’ve worked with on previous Flame Sound releases.
This has been a hard rule for all Flamesound releases, and it feels worth saying out loud. We’ve had a lot of discussion about vibe-coded plugins recently, and I think to keep this part of the creative work human, and that’s the principle Flame Sound is built on.
Free Human Voices is free for personal and commercial use with no attribution required. You can use it in games, videos, music, podcasts, game jams, or anything else. The only thing you can’t do is resell or redistribute the pack itself.
