FSK Audio has released Bark24 | Dyn v1.1, a major update to its 24-band psychoacoustic dynamics processor developed in collaboration with Mark Jeffery, the original designer and primary developer of Pro Tools. We’re checking out the update and also giving away two free copies of the plugin.
First, the giveaway.

The two lucky winners will be selected at random and announced on April 10th.
And now, let’s take a closer look at Bark24 | Dyn.
Bark24 | Dyn Overview
So what makes Bark24 | Dyn different from a standard multiband compressor?
Instead of splitting audio into a handful of frequency bands with arbitrary crossover points, Bark24|Dyn divides the signal into 24 bands based on the psychoacoustic Bark scale. Each band represents a chunk of frequencies that we perceive as distinct from its neighbors.
The bands are narrow where the human ear has higher resolution and wider where resolution is lower. This setup is pretty cool because each band, despite having different bandwidths, carries the same perceptual weight, making adjustments easier to hear and faster to dial in.
Each of those 24 bands gets its own independent dynamics processor with four modes: Limit clamps signals above the threshold, Gate reduces signals below the threshold to silence, Expand adds gain above the threshold, and Up Comp boosts low-level signals.
You also get per-band threshold, gain (plus or minus 48 dB), solo, mute, and bypass controls, along with global attack, release, and three selectable linear-phase filter slopes.
Bark24 | Dyn v.1.1 Update
Version 1.1 adds several workflow improvements that users had been requesting.
The biggest is the band multi-select, which lets you select multiple bands and adjust their parameters together while preserving their relative offsets. You can drag a group control handle to shift the entire selection across the spectrum, and the grouped behavior extends to solo, mute, and power buttons as well.
The update also introduces auto gain, which automatically adjusts band gain levels to compensate for the gain change produced by dynamics processing, and auto output, which keeps the output level consistent with the original signal’s perceived loudness.
There’s also a new internal output limiter that activates automatically if the signal exceeds +12 dB, protecting against unexpected spikes.

You can watch a guided tour of the plugin on YouTube to see how all of this works in practice.
Bark24 | Dyn is available in AAX, VST3, and AU formats for macOS and Windows. The introductory price is $99 (regular price $129.95), and a 14-day trial of the full plugin is available on the FSK Audio website.
