UVI’s Sparkverb algorithmic reverb is available for free on KVR Audio for a limited time. The plugin normally costs €79, and the giveaway runs until April 12th.
Unsurprisingly, to claim your copy, you need a free KVR account. I made my first steps in the world of music production there, so if you ask me, it’s definitely one of the better places to have an account yet.
If you already have one, just log in and fill out the entry form. Entering your phone number is optional. Licenses are issued manually, so allow up to 48 hours after entry to receive yours.
Sparkverb is an algorithmic reverb built on UVI’s Parametric FDN engine. It covers a wide range of spaces, from tight rooms to long, open halls and infinite ambient tails. Most importantly, all of this comes with very low CPU usage.
The plugin is designed to be lightweight enough to be used many times across a session without running into performance issues.
By the way, the recent 1.5 update introduced a redesigned interface, UI scaling, a spectrum analyzer, and 50 new presets (including a curated selection from sound designer Venus Theory).
The central feature of the interface is a frequency-based spectrum editor where you can adjust the overall decay time and shape the decay across low, mid, and high frequency bands using multipliers and crossover points, all on a single visual canvas.
I love the hands-on approach here. It makes dialing in frequency-dependent reverb behavior faster than working with separate controls.
Apart from all the standard reverb parameters (size, pre-delay, shape, modulation depth and rate, mix, width, rolloff, and diffusion), Sparkverb has a few options that are fun if you dabble in sound design.
The Preset Voyager maps all factory and user presets in a 2D cloud based on their similarity. You can click and drag between preset nodes to interpolate new settings in real time.
There are also randomize and mutate functions for generating variations, and parameter locks on every control, so you can experiment while keeping specific settings fixed.
You also get three reverb modes (Lo-Fi, Dark, and Bright), a freeze function for infinite sustain, A/B comparison, variable density, and full automation support.
Sparkverb is available in AU, AAX, VST, and VST3 formats for macOS (10.14 to macOS Tahoe) and Windows 10/11 (64-bit). It requires an iLok account (free, no dongle needed) and UVI Portal for installation.
