The Triad is a three-way distortion plugin from developer Carbon Fiber, billed as “the triangle of destruction” due to its triangular X/Y pad at its core. It is now free for a limited time!
It’s a multi-algorithm distortion and saturation processor offering a tactile way to blend various types of distortion, and it’s free until April 6, 2026.
Once you claim a free license, the plugin is yours forever. However, it will revert to the paid tiers when the offer ends, so don’t miss out.
There’s more going on here than an X/Y pad, but since it’s the defining element of the workflow, let’s start there.
Each point of the triangle leans into a different type and character of distortion/saturation.
- Top corner – Analog
- Left corner – Digital
- Right corner – Waveshapers
The Analog corner mimics different types of hardware, including tape, tube, and transistors.
The Digital corner offers harsher digital degradation for more aggressive distortion.
If you want to venture into more experimental or warped territory, the Waveshaper corner offers complex signal mangling.
Obviously, with any X/Y-based workflow, the attraction is the ability to blend contrasting characteristics seamlessly. In this case, I like the idea of morphing from analog warmth and subtle crunch to an extreme lo-fi, bitcrushed effect.
I’m sure it applies to a wide range of projects, but in media composition, when you often need to invert the atmosphere in an instant, this could be very cool.
Beyond the triangle, you have a few parameters that enhance the character you’ve created. For example, you can simulate older, worn hardware with the Age control, or restore high-end presence after heavy clipping with the Air control.
In addition to tone-shaping controls, you have various parameters that manipulate artifact generation and waveform manipulation.
You also have several different modes to play with, including mid/side processing and Multiband mode, which splits the signal into low/mid/high-frequency bands for per-band control over triangle blends.
There’s still a little while left on this offer, but it’s always best to grab it ASAP to avoid missing out!
