LX480 Essentials is a 64-bit only release for macOS (VST, VST3, AU, AAX) and Windows (VST, VST3, AAX).
LX480 Essentials offers four reverb sounds based on the most essential presets from the Lexicon 480L.
The Lexicon 480L is a digital reverb and effects hardware unit that debuted in 1986.
It’s a classic known for its lush, spacious reverb that marked a high-water mark for digital reverbs, and helped define the sound of ‘80s and ‘90s hits.
LX480 Essentials offers the following four presets from the classic unit: Fat Plate, Medium Hall, Small Ambience, and Large Wood Room.
Fat Plate is based on the RHall algorithm, and offers a bright, coloured sound that’s right at home on vox and percussion.
Medium Hall is a traditional verb sound, and is perfect for giving tracks the sense of sitting in the same space with smooth decay.
Small Ambience is great for adding distance to a dry source, and is perfect for a short drum room sound.
Large Wood Room is good for giving a sense of space, without going all out with a larger hall sound.
LX480 Essentials is designed to deliver rich textures and lush reverb tails, as you’d expect from the original unit.
Relab Development states that LX480 Essentials is a faithful recreation of the presets and uses the “exact same sample-accurate algorithms”.
You can judge how well they did by checking out the dev’s 480L and LX480 shootout video.

There’s also a more extensive range of audio demos on various sources featured on a Soundcloud playlist on the Relab Development’s product page for the plugin.
Relab Development developed the plugin after sourcing an original Lexicon 480L from The Hit Factory in New York when the studio closed its doors.
The plugin offers the ability to shape almost any space while running deep, smooth verb tails.
The high- and low-pass filtering settings allow you to keep your verbs clean and clutter-free.
I can see that Relab Development has remained quite faithful to the old-school aesthetics of the original unit’s alphanumeric remote control.
However, the developers didn’t attempt to replicate the controls exactly; instead, they revamped the interface for rapid workflow, covering the essential parameters.
Relab Development launched LX480 Essentials in May 2021.
If you pick up LX480 Essentials this month, you can also nab one of the two Plugin Boutique March freebies: Diginoiz’s Distiller distortion/filter plugin (normally $59.90) or Zak Sound’s Deep Waters verb (normally $39.00).
