Audio Plugin Coder is a free and open-source AI-powered plugin creation tool from developer Noizefield.
The plugin is still in active development, is subject to change/improvements, and users should expect bugs.
At this stage, APC provides an opportunity to experiment with the concept, test plugin ideas, and, of course, provide useful feedback to the developer.
You can download Audio Plugin Coder in AU, VST3, LV2, and Standalone formats for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
In simple terms, Audio Plugin Coder provides an AI-driven workflow that turns your ideas into fully functional plugins (AU/VST3/CLAP) without requiring complex coding knowledge.
The plugin allows you to create and design plugins using simple language prompts, as shown in the short demo video.
APC guides the user through five distinct phases: Dream, Plan, Design, Implement, and Ship.
If you look at the example session on the GitHub page, you’ll see how the process starts.
You’ll define the concept of your new plugin, and the AI will ask some early relevant questions, before you move on to the planning stage.
The demo video also highlights how easily you can adjust the interface layout.
You can choose Visage (pure C++) or WebView (HTML5) UI frameworks.
The idea is that you can go from thinking up your dream plugin to creating a production-ready version (JUCE 8 integration with a CMake build system) in minutes.
I can understand why this concept will appeal to many musicians and producers; we all have ideas for tools that could improve our workflow, but we don’t all have the know-how to bring those tools to life.
But the mention of AI in music instantly divides opinion, and this time will be no different.
I have to be honest, if I could hit a huge reset button and remove AI from all creative industries, I would, and that makes me sound like a relative Luddite.
However, it’s not a black-and-white argument; anything that helps the creator is good, and anything that replaces the creator, or removes the need for personal learning/improvement, is bad; that’s my simplistic view.
It’s about how we use AI in music, and the fact that there will inevitably be countless examples of AI replacing human creativity is why I’d hit that imaginary reset button.
That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t appreciate the good, because it’s the reality we’re in.
