Sonic Academy offers the JU-60 chorus plugin for free during the Black Friday season.
JU-60 isn’t new (and we already covered it in the past), but every time Sonic Academy makes it free, it’s worth a mention, especially if you’re into the retro retro-style chorus sounds.
The plugin normally costs around $15/£12, and they’ve run similar Black Friday giveaways before, so if you missed it last time, now’s your chance.
Put simply, JU-60 is Sonic Academy’s take on the classic Roland Juno chorus. You get the three familiar modes: I, II, and the combined I+II setting that delivers the big, wide, 80s swirl we all know from the Juno-60.
The controls are intentionally simple. You get two sliders (Mix and Level) and chorus mode buttons. That’s it, for better or for worse.
There are no hidden menus or additional tweakable parameters. It’s just the classic sound presented in a clean but nicely retro Juno-inspired GUI.
There isn’t a lot to dissect feature-wise, and for me, that’s part of the charm. And unsurprisingly, this type of chorus always shines on analog-style synth patches.
Simply by loading this on a channel, pads instantly become thicker, leads get a softer edge, and even basic waveforms suddenly sound fat and alive. Just try this on a basic saw wave patch to hear what I mean.
Now, I haven’t A/B-tested JU-60 against hardware, but it definitely delivers the warm and slightly hazy modulation you expect from a Juno chorus.
All that Juno talk aside, this one also sounds good on non-synth sources. If you’ve ever tried a chorus on guitar, you’ll know how great that wide, slightly warbly spread can be. But with this one, it also gets a subtle retro and lo-fi flavor, which I absolutely love.

I’ve also had good results using this style of chorus on background vocals. I apply just a touch for added width without making things sound obviously “chorused.” The combined mode is especially good for that.
And if you’re a chorus hoarder like me, you should also check out the free TAL-Chorus, another excellent Juno-inspired option.
To get JU-60 for free, head to Sonic Academy’s promo page, enter your email, and they’ll send you a license. Since the offer doesn’t have a confirmed end date, I’d grab it sooner rather than later, but my guess is that it’ll run until Black Friday.
While you’re there, Sonic Academy is also giving away its SA-76 limiting amplifier plugin to subscribers. So if you subscribe, you’ll get both the chorus and the compressor at no extra cost.
JU-60 is available in VST and AU formats for macOS and Windows and works in all major DAWs.
