Ingram Audio has made its Drum Daddy Lite Kontakt Player virtual instrument available for free download.
Ingram marketed it as a pop punk kit, but it would be suitable for any kind of modern rock, punk, or metal work that calls for punchy drums.
If anything, with how aggressive and phat the kit sounds, I’d say it’d be more at home for hard rock, -core, and metal than what I usually hear on pop punk records.
Kontakt Player is a Native Instruments free sampler for macOS and Windows, available for VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
The free Drum Daddy Lite instrument features the Daddy Kit mix preset, which is one of eight mix presets featured in the full Drum Daddy release ($45, down from $75).
The drums here are all pre-processed and mix-ready, with punchy, modern drums right out the gate.
To my ears, Drum Daddy Lite sounds in the same ballpark as the Modern rock and metal kits from EZDrummer 2, which likewise came in a very pre-processed format for dropping straight in the mix.
Ingram Audio notes that Drum Daddy Lite is intended as a drop-in and go drum solution, stating “no faders” and “no mixing”.
It’s likewise made to be e-kit friendly, with the ability to easily tweak the MIDI map and save custom layouts.
Nick Ingram captured the kit in his custom-built drum room, which has been used by artists such as Beartooth and Hawthorne Heights.
To snap up the free kit, sign up for the Ingram Audio mailing list on the Drum Daddy Lite product page, which can be done with a temporary email.
Ingram will immediately email you a subscription confirmation. After confirmation, a follow-up email will arrive in a minute or two, which contains a serial number and a Dropbox link.
The link contains a PDF with installation instructions, which is done via Native Instruments’ free Native Access app.
Ingram notes that you’ll need 3 GB of free hard drive space for the drum library, in addition to 1 GB of space for the Kontakt Player.
Drum Daddy Lite has a limited ability to tweak the output. But if you did want to go deeper, the full Drum Daddy Producer Kit release not only features a total of 8 mix presets, but also the ability to more fully customize the sounds.
This is achieved through a four-band EQ on each mic channel, and various ways to control the way the mics interact across the kit.
Ingram Audio launched the full Drum Daddy Producer Kit in December 2022, although the Lite version was not made available upon the initial release of the kit.
