AudioThing has announced an update to its audio plugin which is inspired by the famous Dolby A Trick technique. Version 1.3.3 of the Type A vintage enhancer comes with macOS 15 Sequoia support, improvements to the compressor stereo link, and fixes for issues with a click sound on first load in some DAWs and online activation in Windows.
The original unit was designed to be a noise reduction system for tape recording (encode stage) and playback (decode stage).
Type A emulates the encode stage, which was often misused as an enhancer, dynamically increasing the top end of a signal without introducing artifacts or altering the harmonic content. The results are similar to a dynamic EQ which adds presence and air to any track in a natural way.
The update is free for existing users of Type A. New customers can purchase the plugin at a 50% discount, priced $29 USD / 29 EUR at the AudioThing store and from Plugin Boutique until September 20th, 2025.
