JID’s fourth studio album, God Does Like Ugly, is finally out — and we’ve got it on vinyl for you to purchase at Complex.
Released on Aug. 8, God Does Like Ugly is the follow-up to JID’s critically acclaimed 2022 LP, The Forever Story. In a recent interview with our very own Jordan Rose, JID explained the significance of the album’s title.
“In 2019, my grandmother passed,” he said. “But before that, I remember speaking to her about something crazy going on in the world, and she was like, ‘God does like ugly if he’s letting all this happen. You should name that your album.’”
“A lot of these records came from that time period, and that focus,” he continued. “That pain from her passing, I kind of just poured it all into this album. I made 150 songs. It took a lot of chaos to get to this body of work.”
God Does Like Ugly features appearances from artists like Vince Staples, Ciara, 6lack, Ty Dolla Sign, and more.
