A New Jersey concert promoter has been slapped with a six figure lawsuit over allegedly promising, and then failing to secure, Doechii and SiR for a Baltimore music festival.
According to a complaint viewed by Complex, Atlanta-based entertainment management firm Blackout Management LLC claims that $187,500 was wired to New Jersey booking agent Christopher Young last December to procure Doechii and SiR for Baltimore’s AFRAM Festival. Young claimed that he had access to the Top Dawg Entertainment artists through the powerhouse label, but allegedly that wasn’t the case.
By March 2025, the suit claims, Young told Blackout that the artists wouldn’t be able to perform at the June festival due to touring commitments. It was after months of “delays and excuses” that Blackout would find out that neither Doechii and SiR was booked to begin with, and that the payment allegedly went to Young’s Sacrifice Management LLC.
It’s alleged that the booking agent agreed to refund Blackout after signing two agreements in May and June, but according to the Atlanta enterprise, it was never paid.
Blackout is suing Young in federal court for fraud, unjust enrichment, and negligent misrepresentation. The company is demanding the entire deposit, legal fees, interest, and punitive damages.
Despite the booking mishap, AFRAM Festival went on, with performers including Patti Labelle, Juvenile, JT, Amerie, Teedra Moses and more. Over the summer, SiR headlined the Step Into the Light Tour, while Doechii held down festivals nationwide and overseas. In October, the latter will embark on her Live From the Swamp Tour.
