If you’re a big fan of Bollywood blockbusters, there’s a good chance Sanchit Balhara was the one behind the music. The pointblank alumni has grown from a classically-trained student into one of India’s most in-demand film score composers. And now he’s back with one of Bollywood’s largest production companies, Yash Raj Films (YRF), to compose for their next massive project, ‘War 2’.
But before we get into it, let’s talk about how it all started for Sanchit.
Sanchit’s journey began as a student with a deep love for film soundscapes and a desire to take his craft to the next level after completing his classical music training. Choosing pointblank, widely regarded as one of the best music production schools, was an easy decision. At pointblank Music School in London, he pursued the Music Production & Sound Engineering diploma, developing his skills and passion. Sound Design quickly became his favourite module, and he particularly valued the curriculum’s practical, hands-on approach. Looking back, he describes his time there as nothing short of “fantastic.”
He often cites giants like John Williams and James Horner as early inspirations and expressed how storytelling was a huge part of his score process. He builds character identities in sound and develops distinct themes and timbres that let audiences ‘hear’ relationships evolve. “Film scoring is sort of a different approach compared to the rest of the music genres. It becomes more challenging to bring a perfect blend of music and visuals together. Each room is a different story, my approach for each project is different and subjective to the story of that film.” (We couldn’t agree more)
In 2015, Sanchit rose to prominence with the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Bajirao Mastani’ which won over 30 awards. Quickly after, he cemented his reputation with the box office success ‘Padmaavat’, grossing over $68 million worldwide. Those early triumphs didn’t just win fans; they even swept India’s biggest music trophies, such as the Mirchi Music, IIFA, GiMA, and Zee Cine Awards.
This year, he’s teaming up with his brother and long-time partner, Ankit Balhara, to compose the music for the Bollywood movie ‘War 2’. The two have built a reputation for delivering adrenaline-pumping music that’s become a signature sound in today’s Hindi action films. Releasing on 14th August 2025, this film stars Bollywood superstar Hritik Roshan alongside icons like Anil Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, and Kiara Advani.
