pointblank Music School’s London campus came alive with energy as music and tech came together in exciting ways. The Audio Programmer Interface (API) returned for its second year and brought producers, coders and creatives for an evening packed with forward-thinking discussions. Filled with industry leaders, professionals, and students, it was a brilliant night for anyone passionate about sound, tech, and innovation. Here’s a quick look at what went down.

Chris Nash, the programme leader for our BSc (Hons) Music Production & Software Engineering degree, kicked things off with a talk called A RADical Approach (RAD stands for Rapid Application Development). He introduced two exciting tools: ‘Manhattan’, a hybrid digital audio workstation (DAW), and ‘Klang’, a simplified C++ coding language made for audio. By connecting these tools with popular game engines like Unity and Unreal, Chris showed how coding is opening up new creative possibilities in music production, live performance, and game sound design.

Next up was Christopher Micheltree, who gave us a glimpse into the world of AI and sound. Using the Neutone SDK, he demonstrated how artists can now use machine learning to do things like mimic different instrument sounds, recreate effects, and shape audio in real time. It works with PyTorch (a popular AI tool) and integrates easily into music software, proving that AI in music is more than just a buzzword – it’s becoming an essential part of modern creativity.

Reuben Thomas from JUCE followed with a look at MIDI 2.0, the latest evolution of the technology behind how electronic instruments and software communicate. This upgrade allows for higher-quality messages and better interaction between devices, giving musicians and developers more detailed control and expression in their music-making.

The evening wrapped up with a lively panel discussion on What’s Next in Music Tech? featuring experts from Orange Amps, Spitfire Audio, and Plugin Alliance. They shared their thoughts on AI-assisted music production, the future of DAWs, and the next wave of tools designed to help creators push their boundaries.

At pointblank Music School, we don’t just teach music production and sound engineering. We develop the next generation of tech-savvy creatives ready to lead in software engineering. Our BSc (Hons) Music Production & Software Engineering degree fuses musical innovation with real-world coding. In modules like Computational Thinking, you’ll use code to arrange and compose music, building a solid foundation in music tech from day one. Whether you’re a coder exploring the world of music or a creative looking to level up with programming, this course gives you the tools to experiment, create, and thrive. You’ll gain hands-on skills that open doors to careers in gaming, app development, immersive media and much more.
