Giulio Zausa’s RRV-10 plugin is an emulation of a famous 80s reverb unit, the Boss RRV-10 Reverb.
The Boss RRV-10 Reverb is part of the Boss Micro Rack series, a series of hardware effects modules released in the mid-1980s.
The Micro Rack series featured a relatively large number of modules, with the following being among the most common:
- RRV-10 Reverb
- RCL-10 Chorus Ensemble
- RPH-10 Phaser
- RGE-10 Graphic Equalizer
- RCL-10 Compressor/Limiter
- RBF-10 Flanger
- RPS-10 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay
- RSD-10 Digital Sampler/Delay
It’s typical to think of guitar pedals, like the OD-1 Overdrive or DM-1 delay, when we hear the name Boss, but the Micro Rack series has its own legacy.
Although initially underappreciated and perhaps not taken seriously by studios, the Micro Rack series found a home with many bedroom producers and has been edging toward cult status ever since.
You can pick up used modules for around $100, at times.
Giulio’s RRV-10 is a lo-fi 12-bit reverb plugin utilizing the HG61H20R36F chip emulator from the MUNT project.
Matching the original hardware, the plugin offers nine algorithms:
- Room 1 (Small)
- Room 2 (Large)
- Hall 1 (Small)
- Hall 2 (Large)
- Plate 1 (Small)
- Plate 2 (Large)
- Multi-Tap (Delay)
- Multi-Tap 2 (Reverse)
- Gated Reverb
Additional parameters include Decay Time, Tone (Pre-EQ), Effect (Dry/Wet), and Direct.
Everything about this reverb is quintessentially 80s, not just the gated reverb, and if you’re mad about the 80s, you’ll love it. It’s not as clean and pristine as some reverb plugins, but then again, it is not meant to be.

I’ve never owned any Micro Rack units, but I’d be surprised if the plugin isn’t a decent recreation, given the developer’s previous release of RdPiano. RdPiano emulates vintage 80s Roland and Rhodes MKS digital pianos, and while there were some bugs and issues, the authenticity of sound was appreciated by many.
If you like the 80s character and want more, keep an eye out for Giulio Zausa’s Smol Rack project, which features additional Boss emulations.
RRV-10 is available in AU and VST3 formats for macOS (Native Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows.
