Ray J calls “cap” on allegations that he was involved in Whitney Houston‘s untimely death in 2012.
Around the time of the late singer’s passing, Ray J and Houston were often seen together in the years following her divorce from Bobby Brown in 2007. On the July 25 episode of Cam Newton‘s Funky Friday podcast, the “One Wish” vocalist once again cleared the air on his relationship with Houston and denied that he was with her when she died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Houston’s cause of death was an accidental drowning that was stemmed by heart disease and cocaine abuse.
Around the 43-minute mark of the video below, Ray J voiced his “love” for Houston and said he was with the six-time Grammy winner “every fucking day.”
“She was one of the most important people to me,” he continued. “N***as is saying that I was in the room when she died. Bro, that’s the biggest cap I’ve ever heard.”
Ray J added that he’s heard the rumors “since the beginning” but never felt the need to refute the accusations because they were untrue. “I didn’t care about what people were saying at first,” he added.
The singer said that in his Instagram comments and when he goes live on the platform, people heckle him by writing that he “killed” Houston.
“It’s not my truth. It’s just certain times when narratives are going to the to the moon. That’s not true,” he continued. “You have to go and you have to shut certain things down, right? The way they made that seem is so haunting to me.”
Ray J explained that he was “nowhere” around Houston at the time of her death but instead in San Diego where he was performing.
“The Clive Davis event was the next day. We were going to go there together and we were going to make the announcement that were were [dating],” he continued.
“That was my people, bro. … I barely speak on Whitney. She’s Whitney Houston. Yes, that’s Whitney Houston, but she’s Whitney to me,” Ray J continued. “To me it’s just so distasteful for somebody to have to tell somebody something that the other person can’t respond to.”
Because Ray J felt that speaking on Houston’s behalf was “unfair,” he “never said nothing.”
Last month, while streaming on Twitch, Ray J called the rumors “out of control” and “disrespectful,” saying that he “let a story build” about the incident without initially shutting it down.
