Ahead of his October sentencing, Diddy is reportedly participating in a drug abuse program and therapy while still behind bars.
That’s the word from TMZ, which shared a report on Tuesday in which “sources close to the situation” were cited as saying that the Bad Boy Records founder was taking part in several programs, including one focused on the prevention of domestic violence. As for the drug program, the tabloid pinpoints that one as being linked to the work of Dr. Harry K. Wexler. Additional info, however, was not provided.
Such programs are standard in these situations, and rehab, specifically, is not new to Diddy. As revealed during the course of his federal sex trafficking and racketeering case, Diddy previously attended rehab roughly a month after the incident captured on hotel surveillance footage in 2016. In the footage, which became public prior to the trial and was presented in a fuller context during the proceedings, Diddy is seen pushing Cassie Ventura to the ground and kicking her.
“I went and I sought out professional help and I had to go into therapy,” Diddy said in a video shared to social media after the hotel footage first went public last year. “We’re going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”
During a bond hearing this month, Diddy’s lead attorney Marc Agnifilo, per reporting from Complex’s Shawn Setaro, argued that a separate incident was an example of his client defending himself. He also said that Diddy had attended “batterer’s program” meetings prior to his arrest last September.
These issues, of course, have been crucial not only in Diddy’s federal case, but also in the numerous civil suits he’s faced in recent years. In a recent interview, Charlucci Finney, a friend and supporter of Diddy’s, was asked by Setaro whether he had any insight to share on what may be next for the mogul, whose trial ended with a split verdict.
“For sure, checking into some type of facility as far as mentally, getting his mental correct,” Finney told Complex last week. “And also possibly a rehab if it’s needed, to make sure that he’s going to stay on the right path.”
