Teyana Taylor is singing Aaron Pierre’s praises.
In a new interview with Complex, the singer, actress, and model sat down with Jordan Rose, who asked about her relationship with Pierre.
“I feel like you gotta handle me like a cup of tea. How would you walk with a cup of tea versus how you would walk with a bottle of water?” she asked. “A cup of tea, you walk slower, you’re more calm, you’re more delicate, and even when you sip it, what happens if you sip the tea too fast? Burn your tongue.”
“I am a cup of tea, and I feel like he handles me as such. He’s very, very gentle. It allows me to feel warm and and to feel safe, and not be in survival mode.”
The couple confirmed rumors of their romance in May in a short film for Teyana’s upcoming album, Escape Room. The project, set to arrive in August, is her first offering since 2020’s The Album. Fans began speculating about Taylor and Pierre earlier this year when they were seen at public events together, including the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
The 34-year-old divorced Iman Shumpert last year in what is still a contentious legal battle. Even though their divorce was finalized last July, in early May, Shumpert filed a motion for his ex-wife to be found in contempt of court for allegedly violating the terms of their divorce.
The former NBA player claimed Taylor “willfully and contemptuously expos[ing] and broadcast[ing] specific provisions of the final judgment decree of divorce and related provisions, recklessly disregarding the financial circumstances, privacy, safety, and security of the parties and their minor children.”
The former couple—who were together for 10 years and married for seven—shares two daughters, 9-year-old Iman Tayla “Junie” Shumpert Jr. and 4-year-old Rue Rose Shumpert.
