While discussing his children on Theo Von’s podcast, rapper Kevin Gates opened up about his daughter’s involvement with the furry community and explained why he dressed up alongside her in a viral video last year.
“My daughter, she’s into the furry costumes,” he said at the 1:26:00 point of the podcast, as seen above. “They dressing up like… Don’t kill me, ‘cause I don’t want to say it, ‘cause she real defensive about this. ‘No, dad, that’s not what it’s called, it’s called this!’ I don’t know the name of it, but they dress up like and animals, and I did it one with her. That was my way of like, going into her world.”
In the clip posted last year, the Louisiana rapper appeared in a video with his daughter, who goes by the name Jade online. He sported a furry headpiece, while she was featured in a full furry getup.
“She was like, ‘I want to post the video that me and you did on TikTok but I’m scared people are going to hate on it,'” he continued. “I said, ‘Promise me you going to do one thing.’ She said, ‘What?’ I heard Floyd Mayweather say this: ‘No matter what you do, if you do something good if you do something bad, if you do something for yourself or you do something for other people… People gonna always have something to say about you. So just promise me that you going to make yourself happy.'”
Theo Von’s producers then brought up the clip, and Gates proudly pointed out himself in the video. “That’s beautiful, man,” said the comedian. “I don’t know what I was, I think I was like a little wolf or something,” added Gates. “She was afraid to post it, but then once she posted, the shit went viral. She was already lit in the furry community. I hope I’m saying it right. I love you! That was my way of going into her world. I’m proud of them.”
