Chris Brown has resolved a civil lawsuit tied to a 2023 nightclub altercation in London, where he was accused of attacking a man with a tequila bottle, but the singer still faces criminal prosecution in the United Kingdom.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that the civil case filed by music producer Abe Diaw was dismissed with prejudice on June 28 in Los Angeles County, indicating that both parties likely reached a private settlement.
Dismissing a case with prejudice prevents it from being refiled. Diaw filed the lawsuit in 2023, alleging that Brown struck him multiple times with a Don Julio 1942 bottle at TAPE nightclub in London.
According to the complaint, Brown continued to assault him after he fell unconscious, stating the artist “ruthlessly stomped” on him and caused lasting injuries.
While the civil matter has been closed, Chris Brown’s legal troubles are far from over. He still faces criminal charges in the U.K. stemming from the same incident.
British authorities arrested Chris Brown in Manchester on May 15, 2025, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. The charges stem from the February 19, 2023, incident at the upscale London club.
Prosecutors allege Brown used the bottle as a weapon before punching and kicking Diaw while he lay on the ground.
Brown appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court the day after his arrest and was held in custody for nearly a week.
He was later released on $6 million bail under strict conditions, including surrendering his passport and residing at a court-approved address in the U.K.
Despite the pending charges, Brown has been granted permission to continue traveling for his world tour, provided he returns for all scheduled court appearances.
On June 20, 2025, Brown entered a not-guilty plea in the criminal case. The trial is set for October 26, 2026.
