A rep for Ye cleared up confusion after business filings listed him as “Ye Ye,” confirming the name was a clerical error.
Ye has not changed his name to “Ye Ye” despite recent business documents filed in California that caused confusion about a second legal name switch.
A spokesperson for the rapper and fashion mogul cleared up the speculation to The New York Post_,_ saying, “There is no ‘Ye Ye.”
Filings submitted by his chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani, listed the name “Ye Ye” as the manager or member for several of Ye’s companies, including Yeezy Apparel and Yeezy Record Label, LLC.
The confusion stemmed from a technical requirement in an online form that forced users to input both a first and last name.
Since he legally dropped his full name in 2021 and now goes by a single moniker, the system defaulted to duplicating the name in both fields, resulting in the appearance of “Ye Ye.”
The paperwork led to speculation that the Hip-Hop artist had once again altered his legal identity. However, the filings were purely administrative and did not reflect any legal name change.
The rapper officially changed his name from Kanye Omari West to simply “Ye” in 2021, three years after first announcing his intention to do so.
A Los Angeles judge approved the request, which he said was rooted in spiritual and philosophical reasons. In a 2018 tweet, Ye wrote, “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”
He has since reinforced the change by using “Ye” across his social media accounts and business ventures.
The name “Kanye” itself has Swahili origins, meaning “the only one” or “unique,” a name given to him by his parents to reflect individuality and purpose.
But Ye’s decision to drop it was part of a broader effort to simplify and redefine his public persona.
