The account “Ye” is owned by someone else and West’s fans aren’t letting it slide. The account is littered with threatening (although likely innocuous) comments that range from “Just give him the @ bro” and “your time is coming lil brah” to “enjoy ur username while you still have it” and “black vans about to pull up on you gang.”
“Ye” has had the account since 2007 and some people are convinced he could get loads of money from West if he were to sell it to him. West tweeted about his intention to change his handle on Saturday night (May 31), writing, “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is.”
More than 33 million people follow his current account.

Kanye West officially changed his legal name to “Ye” in October 2021. It’s a mononym that eliminates both his middle and last names. The Los Angeles Superior Court granted his petition, which he’d filed in August of that year citing “personal reasons” for the change.
Ye had been using the nickname publicly for years, notably titling his 2018 album Ye and declaring on social media at the time, “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”
The court’s approval made the switch permanent, and Ye’s team has since requested that all media, streaming services and publishers refer to him solely by his new name—although that request has never really been honored, most likely because West hasn’t earned that respect due to his inflammatory behavior over the years.
