Wendy Williams said she was completely unaware of the $250 million lawsuit her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, had filed using her name.
Wendy Williams claims she was blindsided by a $250 million lawsuit filed by her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, who named her as a co-plaintiff in a legal battle over her court-appointed guardianship—without her knowledge or approval.
Williams told TMZ she had “no idea” the lawsuit even existed and made it clear she had no part in filing it. When asked about Hunter’s involvement, she didn’t hold back. She called her ex-husband “a money-grubber” and said, “he’s always been that way. It’s good to know that he’s doing such evil things — again.”
She added, “Nor do I want him to be a part of my life like that, no. Because I’m divorced forever.”
Her attorney, Joe Tacopina, confirmed her complete lack of involvement. “She absolutely didn’t” know about the lawsuit, he said, adding that she is “not happy about it.”
Tacopina also dismissed Hunter’s legal maneuvering, saying, “He has no standing to add her name [to the lawsuit] or no authority from Wendy whatsoever. And we certainly don’t need his help if we want to file a lawsuit. So, thanks, but no thanks.”
Wendy Williams Lost $20 Million In Lost Earnings, Ex-Husband Argues
The lawsuit, obtained by People, names 48 defendants, including Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, Judge Lisa Sokoloff, Wells Fargo, her assisted living facility and several attorneys.
It demands $250 million in damages, the release of sealed court records, and a new guardian, but it does not seek to end her guardianship entirely.
Hunter is also asking to be declared Williams’ “next friend,” a legal designation that would allow him to act on her behalf. Her legal team has flatly rejected that idea.
Hunter argues that Williams has lost an estimated $20 million per year since being placed under guardianship in 2022, which he claims has blocked her from working.
Williams and Hunter were married for more than two decades before finalizing their divorce in 2019. She has been under court-ordered guardianship since 2022.
