Voidstar Audio has released KLYP, a free soft clipper plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
I actually found out about this one a little late. It came out around four months ago, but a BPB reader (thanks, bunbonnie!) recently pointed me toward it, and I’m surprised it hasn’t made the rounds yet.
After spending some time with KLYP, I’m really glad it came to my attention, because this is a great little clipper with one of the nicer GUIs I’ve seen recently.
KLYP is another entry in the ever-growing world of free clippers (we just looked at Venomode Mesa Lite earlier today), but this one earns its place in your toolbox pretty quickly.
It’s a soft clipper with adjustable curve softness, letting you move freely between surgical hard clipping and more forgiving soft clipping. You also get threshold and pre-gain controls, and while that’s all fairly standard stuff, the visual feedback is where KLYP really shines.
Like Mesa Lite, KLYP features a real-time waveform display showing exactly how your audio is being clipped. You can see the threshold line right on the waveform, which makes it incredibly easy to catch peaks and dial in just the right amount of control.
But KLYP takes things a step further with up to 8x oversampling and optional Antiderivative Antialiasing, giving you much cleaner results when pushing the clipper harder.
That’s something you won’t find in Mesa Lite, and it makes a noticeable difference when you’re trying to reduce digital harshness.
I also love (!) the GUI.
It’s clean, white, and almost scientific-looking in the best way possible. A clipper doesn’t need to look flashy. It needs to feel precise and trustworthy, and KLYP nails that aesthetic.
This genuinely feels like a small utility tool you’d keep on your desk for tidying up peaks, and sometimes that minimal, technical look in a plugin inspires me to pay more attention to the tiny details when mixing (weird, but true).
KLYP is available as pay-what-you-want, with $10 suggested by the developer. But you can absolutely grab it for free if you want to try it first. This is Voidstar Audio’s only plugin at the moment, but if this is any indication of what’s coming, I really hope they continue developing more tools.
KLYP is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3 and CLAP formats.
